Le Dernier Cri
Le Dernier Cri is a French artists' publishing house founded in 1993 by Pakito Bolino and Caroline Sury, out of the French undergraphic movement of the 1980s. Bolino still runs the screen printing workshop, now at La Friche la Belle de Mai in Marseille, where everything is printed by hand on the premises.
In its first twenty years the studio produced more than three hundred silkscreened books, alongside the magazine Hôpital Brut, records and animated films. It also curates. In 2014 it staged Mangaro at La Friche, an exhibition covering forty years of underground manga. The work it publishes is intense and often disturbing by design, dense with line and saturated colour, and it tips readily from the comic into the grotesque.
Le Dernier Cri publishes an international roster rather than a house style. The prints here are by Mark Beyer, Kinga Janiak, Samplerman, Tetsunori, Ota Keiti, Matt Crabe, Laura Holdein, Mathieu Desjardins and Laurent Impeduglia. Each is hand pulled on Fedrigoni paper in an edition rarely larger than fifty.
